For its extraordinary work in supporting the local community, especially after Hurricane Katrina, the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF) is the recipient of the 2009 Award for Outstanding Foundation presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).
NeighborWorks® America congratulates GNOF on this significant achievement. The Foundation has been an excellent partner to NeighborWorks in New Orleans. We have provided funding to some of the same nonprofits, further promoting quality and affordable housing for individuals. GNOF has also helped NeighborWorks in facillitating previous workshops on green building techniques for rehab and new construction, as well as coordinating green specifications.
Recently NeighborWorks worked with GNOF in the formation of a Housing Resource Center (HRC) for city of New Orleans. In this project, NeighborWorks and GNOF initially collaborated in hiring a consultant to do the ground work and lay the foundation for the HRC. The work with GNOF and other partners in the design of the HRC continues, with the selection of service providers and funding to participating organizations.
The AFP award honors a foundation that demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support and through encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership roles in philanthropy and national, international and/or community involvement. The Greater New Orleans Foundation received the honor at the Awards for Philanthropy Banquet during AFP's International Conference on Fundraising in New Orleans in April. View news release.
