Speaker Profile: Floyd Gardner
Mr. Gardner joined NHS in the summer of 2000 as the Redevelopment Corporation’s Finance/Acquisition Manager. In 2002, Floyd was promoted to the post of Director of the NeighborHomes program. In both these roles, Floyd led the team within the NHS Redevelopment Corporation that acquires and rehabs vacant single-family buildings and sells them to new homeowners. During his tenure NHS reclaimed 135 vacant and troubled buildings.
In April 2003, Floyd became the Neighborhood Director in West Humboldt and held this position for just over a year. In that role he revived the West Humboldt Program, completing the sale of final phase of a New Homes for Chicago project and successfully implemented a collaborative effort with another neighborhood group to rehabilitate vacant and abandoned buildings under the City of Chicago’s Pilot Preservation Initiative.
In April of 2004, Floyd returned to NHS’s Redevelopment Corporation as Deputy Director. In this role, Floyd is responsible for leading, overseeing and coordinating all development activities of one to four unit property and provides leadership for the City of Chicago’s Troubled Building Initiative II, a collaboration between NHS and the City of Chicago’s Department of Housing.
