NeighborWorks America has a partnership with Southern New Hampshire
University’s School of Community Economic Development.
This partnership is designed to enhance educational and credentialing
opportunities for practitioners in the community economic
development field.
Master's Degree Portfolio Credit Program
The collaboration includes a portfolio credit program open only to students currently enrolled in the Master of
Science in Community Economic Development at SCED of SNHU.
The portfolio credit program is structured as follows:
- SCED will provide six graduate credits (equal to two courses)
to those who have earned a professional
certificate in
one of eight content areas from the NeighborWorks
Training Institute since calendar year 2000.
- The credits are awarded at no additional cost to holders
of professional certificates and may be applied as electives towards
a Master's in CED at SNHU.
- The awarding of these credits will result in advanced standing,
which allows a Master’s in CED student to either (1)
reduce the number of courses taken each semester, or (2) take
a full load of courses for the first 3 semesters of the Master’s
in CED program and then reduce by half the number of courses
that the student is required to take in the last semester.
SCED will award the student a $500 tuition scholarship
to be used to defray the costs of his/her fourth semester.

Portable Credit Program
The partnership also offers a portable credit program in which
Southern New Hampshire University's (SNHU) School of Economic
Development (SCED) will provide six graduate credits to those
who earn a professional
certificate from NeighborWorks Training Institute and
register with SCED during or before completing the requirements for their professional
certificate. The portable credits are transferable to other
universities and educational institutions. This program is
structured as follows:
SCED will provide six graduate credits to persons who complete and are awarded a Professional Certificate from the
NeighborWorks Training Institute, subject to the following
terms and conditions:
- A person seeking to obtain portable credits must register
with SCED during or before the semester when the professional certificate
is expected to be awarded, and be assigned a SCED faculty
advisor. SCED registration may be done in conjunction
with and through the registration process for a NeighborWorks® Training Institute.
- SCED will create two courses in its curriculum for each
professional certificate, such that course credit will be awarded
in the community development domain covered by the professional certificate.
- Students must pay for portable credits prior to receiving
them (the cost per portable credit hour will be at prevailing
SNHU rates).
The portable credit(s) are transferable to other universities
and educational institutions and can be used towards an advanced
degree in related disciplines, with the value of any such
credit(s) being subject to the target university’s or
educational institution’s rules and regulations governing
credit transfers.
