Specialized Training: Community Leadership Institute
The Community Leadership Institute is an invitation only training event that aims to strengthen the voices and skills of community, resident, and volunteer leaders. Participants attend in teams from areas served by NeighborWorks Network organizations and their partners.
Since 1995, NeighborWorks America has conducted over 20 CLIs. The CLIs provide a framework for learning and a forum for discussing community issues and sharing best practices and solutions to the problems faced by low-income communities around the country.
At the end of every CLI, each participating Team creates an action plan so they can effectively bring the knowledge they gained at the CLI back to their communities and use it to effect positive change.
Some of the training workshops offered at CLIs include:
Developing Your Leadership Potential
Mobilizing Young People as Leaders for Community Change
Working in Diverse Communities
Getting the Media's Eye
Understanding Predatory Lending Practices
Dealing with Absentee Landlords
Using Technology to Help Build Community
Dorothy Richardson Awards for Resident Leadership
The Dorothy Richardson Award for Resident Leadership is an honor bestowed annually in recognition of outstanding contributions by dedicated community leaders.
