Can Sustainable Communities exist without affordable housing? Despite its
role as a foundation of urban community sustainability, the transformative
role — and impact investment potential — of “Affordable Housing” is too
often given short shrift.
This symposium will spotlight the catalytic role affordable housing plays in creating
more sustainable communities by surfacing the potential and actual social returns of
such investments. An audience of experienced practitioners with national and local
viewpoints will bring their experience and perspectives to a fast-paced exploration of
how to gain more leverage from the social, environmental and economic value of affordable
housing.
The objective of the day is to provide participants with the latest knowledge and strategies
about methods for expanding investment in affordable housing as a complement to
high-density, mixed-use community design.
The highly interactive symposium will present real-world cases and cutting-edge
research; you’ll hear from and ask questions of panels of experts on:
- the social returns of housing relevant to impact investors
financially scalable investment models for preserving affordable housing
- new investment tools for private and public funding of social enterprises as stewards
of housing infrastructure for sustainable communities
- planning/design strategies for including affordability in more dense, mixed use community planning, as existing development patterns evolve
Join us in this cutting-edge day that will bring together local and national
leaders ready to:
- engage in the national dialogue about the full impact of affordable housing — economic, social and environmental
- hear about innovative research on the role of affordable housing in sustainable
communities
- discuss new research on the social returns of housing, and the returns on
investment most valued by impact investors
- learn about new investment tools being developed to bring housing and transit
together
- consider how to expand investment in affordable housing through the mission-driven
ownership entities that ensure long term excellence for communities and
residents.
